Question

To make a saturated solution, 136g of a salt is dissolved in 500g of water at 293 K. Find its solubility at this temperature.

Open in App
Solution

Mass of solute (sodium chloride) = 136g (Given)

Mass of solvent (water) = 500g (Given)

Then, mass of solution = Mass of solute + Mass of solvent

= (136+500) g

= 636g

Therefor solubility = massofsolutemassofsolvent× 100
= 136500× 100
= 27.2

Therefore, concentration (mass by mass percentage) of the solution

= massofsolutemassofsolution× 100
= 136636× 100

= 21.38 %
