Question

To make a saturated solution 36 g of sodium chloride is dissolved in 100 g of water at 293 K. Find its concentration at this temperatures.

Open in App
Solution

NaCl is solute and water is solvent because solute is generally present in less quantities then solvent. Also, the substance which is dissolved is called solute whereas the substance in which it is dissolved is called solvent.
concentration = [Mass of solute (NaCl) × 100 ]/ mass of solution.
Mass of solute = 36 g.
Mass of solution = mass of solvent + mass of solute = 100 + 36 g = 136 g
Concentration = (36 x 100) / 136= 3600/136 = 26.47 %
