To make the expressions true, replace ___by '<', '>' or '=' symbols.

(-17)-(-17)___(-17)+(-17)

Open in App
Solution

Finding the required symbol to make the expression true

Let the integers on left side of the blank be L.H.S. and integers on the right side be R. H. S.

Taking L.H.S.

(-17)-(-17)

To subtract an integer, we add its additive inverse.

=-17+17 [Additive inverse of -17 is 17]

=0

Taking R.H.S.

(-17)+(-17)

=-34 [Since, both the integers are negative, then we will add the integers and put the negative sign with the result]

Here, R.H.S< L.H.S.

Hence, (-17)-(-17)>(-17)+(-17)
