Mixtures with very less difference in boiling points cannot be separated with regular distillation process.
Example, different gases from the air and also fractions from petroleum products are separated through fractional distillation.
This apparatus is similar to that of normal distillation, except that a fractionating column is fitted in between the distillation flask and the condenser.
