Question

To sir,
I have a doubt,
If a 4-sided polygon is known as Quadrilateral, then why don't we call triangle a trilateral?

Solution

When I search Google for the definition of trilateral one of the results is a triangle. Same for trigon. Also, triangle is parallel to a third word for a quadrilateral or tetragon, namely "quadrangle". It's just not the more frequently used term. But, it's equally correct to say either triangle or trilateral.
