Solution

The correct option is C flattened
The diaphragm is the major muscle that participates in breathing movements and is located below the lungs. It is a large, dome-shaped muscle that contracts rhythmically and continually, and most of the time, involuntarily.
Upon inhalation, the diaphragm contracts and flattens and the chest cavity enlarges. This causes the lungs to expand and air pressure in the lungs to drop. Hence, atmospheric air is pulled into the lungs.
Upon exhalation, the diaphragm relaxes and returns to its dome-like shape. Thus the air is forced out of the lungs as they contract due to reduction in the size of chest cavity.
