The oxidation of an alkylbenzene in the presence of potassium permanganate/potassium hydroxide leads to the formation of benzoic acid.

This means that toluene reacts with KMnO4 in presence of H+(H3O+) to give
Benzoic acid(C6H5COOH) . Which is compound C.
A is an intermediate formed. Which is an ring with an aldehyde on one C and OK+ group on nearby carbon atom. Which on acidification gives benzoic acid.
