Solution

The correct option is A Ferulic acid in fruits
Three conditions are required for seed germination.
1. Oxygen - Energy is required for seed germination. This energy is derived from oxidation of stored food material and this process requires oxygen.
2. Water - Seed contains stored food in concentrated form. Water is necessary to convert concentrated food into the form of food that can be utilized by seedling.
3. Temperature - Optimum temperature is essential for every type of seed to germinate. It varies according to plant type.
The substances which can disturb any of these three conditions can obstacle germination process.
Vivivpary is a condition where seeds germinate before they detach from the parent.
Tomato is a berry fruit where seeds become free from placenta and lie freely in pulp.
Presence of excess salts does not alter the oxygen level, water level in pulp. It also cannot alter the temperature around fruit.
Abscisic acid (ABA) is a plant hormone which regulates many aspects of plant growth such as seed dormancy, cell elongation, germination in response to stress conditions as drought, pathogen attack, etc. Abscisic acid inhibits seed germination only under stress conditions as many seeds are formed at the end of the season when conditions are not optimum for the seed to germinate and form a new plant. Otherwise it does not inhibit germination under optimum conditions.
Ferulic acid is a phytochemical compound which is commonly found in many fruits and vegetables as tomato, rice bran etc. Ferulic acid shows a strong antioxidant activity. It is a scavenger of free radicals like oxygen anion and exhibits its antioxidant activity by donating hydrogen from its phenolic group. Ferulic acid present in tomato carries out anti-oxidation process and does not allow free radicals like oxygen anion to remain in pulp. This hampers the germination process i.e. vivipary of tomato seeds.
Absence of oxygen inhibits the germination process. But oxygen anion unavailability is the effect of antioxidant activity of ferulic acid.
Therefore, the correct answer is option A.
