Solution

Skull :

  1. Skull is the part of the axial skeleton (composed of 80 bones).
  2. The skull is composed of two different sets of bones i.e, cranial and facial bones.
  3. Cranial bones are eight in number, forming the protective covering (cranium) for the brain.
  4. Facial bones form the front part of the skull and are 14 in number.
  5. So, the total number of bones found in the human skull is 22, i.e 14 facial bones+6 Cranial bones.

Associated bones with the skull:

  1. A horse-shaped or U-shaped bone found at the base of the buccal cavity is called hyoid bone.
  2. The three tiny bones of each middle ear are, Malleus, Incus, and stapes are associated with the skull.
  3. Total associated bones with the skull are seven i.e 1 hyoid bone + 6 bones of the ear.
  4. So, the total number of bones found in the skull becomes 29.
