(a) The optical path difference at P is
p=S1PS2P=dcosθ
Since. cosθ=1θ22, where is small,
Therefore, p=d(1θ22)
=d[1y22D2] where D+dD and θ=y/D
For nth maxima, p=nλ
y=D2(1nλd)
(b) At the central maxima, θ=0
p=d=nλ
or n=dλ=0.50.5 ×103=1000
