Question

Trace the development of polyploidal cell that is formed after double fertilisation in a nonalbuminous seed and albuminous seed.

Solution

The central cell after triple fusion becomes the primary endosperm cell (PEC) and develops into the endosperm which is triploid nutritive tissue. In albuminous seed the endosperm persists even at maturity as developing embryo does not consume it completely as in caston and coconut.

In non-albuminous seed the endosperm is completly consumed by the developing embryo. So, endosperm is not present at maturity as in Pea, Groundnut, beans etc.
