Trachea is a main supporting structure of the respiratory system because it is a passageway for air during breathing and respiration.
Trachea is supported by c-shaped cartilage and prevents it from collapsing when there is not much air in it. Hence, the air movement is not hindered.
Trachea also helps in moistening and warming the air before it reaches the lungs.
