(a)Narcotics are the drugs that in moderate doses dulls the senses, relieves pain, and induces profound sleep but in excessive doses causes stupor, coma, or convulsion. For example, morphine, codeine, oxycontin, hydrocodone, hydromorphone, oxycodone, methadone, meperidine, and fentanyl.
(b)The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, commonly referred to as the NDPS Act, is an Act of the Parliament of India that prohibits a person to produce/manufacture/cultivate, possess, sell, purchase, transport, store, and/or consume any narcotic drug. Hence Trafficking of narcotic drugs is a punishable offense.
(C)Signs of drug abuse include 1)Bloodshot eyes and frequent bloody noses, 2)Changes in personality and behavior like a lack of motivation, irritability, and agitation 3)Shakes, tremors, or slurred speech 4)Lack of concern for personal hygiene.
