Transcription is the process which leads to the formation of a primary transcript or hnRNA from DNA.

The regions in the hnRNA that code for amino acids are called as exons while regions that do not code for amino acids are called introns.

The hnRNA undergoes certain post transcriptional changes during which the introns are removed and exons are joined. This process is called splicing. Splicing results in the formation of mature mRNA that has only exons but no introns. Hence, the transcribed regions present in mature mRNA are exons and transcribed regions not present in mature mRNA are introns.

A sequence of three nucleotides in the mRNA is called as codon whereas a sequence of three nucleotides in a tRNA molecule is called as anticodon.
