False fruits never develop from the ovary. All false fruits have true fruit which may or may not be edible. A guava or Psidium guajava is a false berry that has an edible and fleshy pericarp that is fused with the thalamus. The only parts that may not be edible are the hard seeds scattered in the fruit. In the case of apple, which is a false fruit and a pome, the edible part is the thalamus and the pericarp is not edible.
