Question

Two 1200 V thyristors are series connected and a supply of 2 kV is connected across them. The forward blocking characteristic of the first thyristor has a slope of 16.7 μA/V and that of the second thyristor has a slope of 12.5 μA/V. If VT1 and VT2 are the voltages across first and second thyristor respectively, then the value of |VT1VT2| is

Solution

RT1=116.7×106=60 kΩ

RT2=112.5×106=80 kΩ

VT1=V×RT1(RT1+RT2)=2×6060+80=857.14 V

VT2=V×RT2(RT1+RT2)=2×8060+80=1142.86V

|VT1VT2|=|857.141142.86|
= 285.72 V
