Question

Two adjacent graph shows the extensions l of a wire of length 1m is suspended from the top of a roof at one end and with a load w connected to the other end if the area of cross section of the wire is 10power -6m .calculate from the graph the youngs modulus of the material of the wire

Solution

ℓ = 1 × 10–4 m

F = 20 N

A = 10–6 m2

L = 1 m

Y = (FL / Aℓ)

= {(20 × 1) / (10–6 × 10–4)}

= 20 × 1010

= 2 × 1011 Nm–2
