Distance between the longer side $DE=12cm$
Let the distance between the shorter side$DF=x$ cm
Area of parallelogram considering AB as base $=AB\times DE=24\times 12c{m}^2$
Area of parallelogram considering BC as base $=BC\times DF=18\times xc{m}^2$
Since the area are same
$\Rightarrow 12\times 24=18\times x$
$\Rightarrow x=\frac{12\times 24}{18}$
$\Rightarrow x=16$ cm
