Question

Two angles are supplementary.if one of them is one third of the other, find the angle

Open in App
Solution

let 1st angle = x
so the 2nd angle = 180 - x (because they are supplementary)
1st angle = 1/3 of 2nd angle
x = 1/3 (180 - x)
x = 60-x/3
Multiply by 3
3X=180-X
3X+X=180
4X = 180
x = 180/4
x = 45

so, the 1st angle = x = 45 degrees
and the 2nd angle = 180 - x = 180 - 45 = 135degrees
