Applying conservation of linear momentum,


In horizontal direction: mu+0=mv1cosθ1+mv2cosθ2 ...(1)
In vertical direction:
0=mv1sinθ1mv2sinθ2 ...(2)

If the collision is perfectly elastic, kinetic energy is also conserved.
12mu2=12mv21+12mv22
u2=v21+v22 ...(3)
Squaring and adding (1) and (2), we get
u2=v21+v22+2v1v2(cosθ1cosθ2sinθ1sinθ2)
or u2=v21+v22+2v1v2cos(θ1+θ2) ...(4)

From equation (3) and (4), we get
2v1v2cos(θ1+θ2)=0
cos(θ1+θ2)=0 or θ1+θ2=π2 or 90
i.e the masses move at right angle to each other after the collision.
