The correct option is B $16 m/s$
As there is no external forces acting on the system of two balls, on applying Law of Conservation of Linear Momentum, we get,

$m_{1} u_{1} + m_{2} u_{2} = m_{1} v_{1} + m_{2} v_{2}$

$\Rightarrow 1 \times u_{1} + 2 \times (- 8) = 1 \times 0 + 2 \times 0$

$\Rightarrow u_{1} = 16 m/s$
