Two blocks of iron of different masses are kept on a cemented floor as shown in Fig.12.2. Which one of them would require a larger force to move it from the rest position?

  1. The heavier block will require more force to move.
  2. Because the force of friction increases with the mass of the object, moving the second block from its rest position would require a greater force.
  3. As a result, the friction force on the second block will be greater.
  4. The friction force is given by F=μmg. In this formula, if mass m increase then friction force also increased.
  5. As a result, moving the heavier block from its resting position requires more force.
