Two blocks of masses 1kg and 2kg are placed in contact on smooth horizontal surface as shown in Figs.6.34 and 6.35. A horizontal (a) on a 1kg block (b) a 2kg block. Find the force of interaction of the blocks.

Solution

Since both the blocks are in contact, therefore, they will move together with an acceleration
a=FnetMtotal=62+1=2ms2
Let the force of interaction between them is R1
By Newton's second law for 2kg block, Normal reaction on 2kg block,
R1=2a=2×2=4N
Let the force of interaction between them is R2
By Newton's second law for 1kg block, normal reaction on 2kg block,
R2=1a=1×1=1N
