Two blocks of masses $5 k g$ and $2 k g$ placed on a frictionless surface are connected by a spring. An external kick gives a velocity of $14 m / s$ to the heavier block in the direction of the lighter one. Calculate the velocity gained by the centre of mass.

Given,
$m_{1} = 5 k g, m_{2} = 2 k g v = 14 m / s, v_{2} = 0 \Rightarrow v_{c m} = \frac{m_{1} v_{1} + m_{2} v_{2}}{m_{1} + m_{2}} = \frac{70}{7} = 10 m / s$
