Let T be the tension in the string and a be the acceleration of the system. Their equations of motion are m1gsin300T=m1a .............(i)
Tm2gsin300=m2a ..............(ii)
Adding (i) and (ii), we get
(m1+m2)a=(m1m2)gsin300
Substituting the given values, we get
(40+30)a=(4030)×9.8×12=49
