Solution

The correct option is A 0.5 m/s

Given, mass of A,m1=60 kg
mass of B,m2=40 kg
and mass of platform, m3=100 kg

Let velocity of platform w.r.t ground be v towards left, then velocity of boy A w.r.t ground is (5v) towards right.
Similarly, velocity of boy B w.r.t ground will is (5+v) towards left.
i.e v1=5v,v2=(5+v) and v3=v

Using momentum conservation, (treating rightwards direction as +ve)
m1v1+m2v2+m3v3=0
60(5v)40(5+v)100v=0
60×560v40×540v100v=0
300200=200v
v=100200=0.5 m/s (towards left)
