Question

Two bullets are fired with horizontal velocities of 50m/s and 100m/s from two guns at a height of 19.6m (a) Will both the bullets strike the ground? (b) If yes, then after how much time and which bullet will strike first? (c) What would be the path of the bullets? (g=9.8m/s2)

Solution

(a) Yes, both the bullets will strike the ground at the same time.because the downward acceleration and initial velocity in the downward direction of the two bullets are same. They will take the same time to hit the ground and for half projectile.

(b) Height =19.6m
v=0
h=vt+12gt2

19.6=0×t+12×9.8×t2t2=19.64.9=4t=2sec

Hence, both bullets will hit the ground simultaneously after 2second,at the same.

c)Both the bullets travel half projectile, the bullet with higher velocity cover more distance then the other velocity.
