Solution

The correct option is B 1.13×104 Nm
Given:
q=4 μC; E=20 ^i N/C

End points of dipole are A(1,0,4) and B(2,1,5).

So, the distance between charges of the dipole
2l=AB

2l=[(21)^i+(10)^j+(54)^k]

2l=(^i^j+^k)

Torque acting on dipole placed in electric field is given by

τ=p×E=[q(2l)]×E

τ=[q (^i^j+^k)]×20 ^i

As, ^i×^i=0; ^j×^i=^k; ^k×^i=^j

τ=4×106×20 (^k+^j)=8×105 (^k+^j)

So, for magnitude,

|τ|=8×105 (1)2+(1)2=8×105×2=1.13×104 Nm

So, option (b) is the correct answer.
