Chronic diseases:
- These diseases develop over a course of time and persist either throughout the lifetime of an individual or over several years.
- It involves an internal cause that develops and worsens over a course of several years.
- These develop gradually but persist over long periods of time (over a year). In a majority of cases, there is no permanent cure for the disease.
- Lifestyle changes, gene therapy, or stem cell treatments are most sought after.
Examples: Alzheimer's disease, AIDS.
