Two circular coils mounted parallel to each other on the same axis carry steady currents. If an observer between the coils report that one coil is carrying a clockwise current I1 , while the other is carrying a counter clockwise current I2, between the two coils, then there is :

This can be explained by the right-hand thumb rule. As the current is in the opposite direction, the force will be repulsive in nature.
