Two closed vessels of equal volume contain air at pressure 100kPa and temperature 250K and are connected through a narrow tube. If one of the vessels is now maintained at 250K and the other at 300K, what will be the pressure in the vessels?

Solution
The correct option is C109kPa Let the initial pressure, volume and temperature in each vessel be P0(=100kPa),V0 and T0(=250K). Let the number of moles in each vessel be n.
At final state, both vessels have same pressure P and let the number of moles be n1,n2 respectively .
Then, n1+n2=2n [Total moles will be same]
Using ideal gas equation, PV0RT0+PV0RT1=2P0V0RT0 ⇒PT0+PT1=2P0T0 ⇒P=2P0T0×T0×T1T0+T1 =2×100250×250×300550 ∴P=109kPa
