Path difference between the two rays meeting at any point= dsinθ.

Now as the detector moves along x-axis beginning from S2,
θ changes from 0 to 90.

For minima to be formed there, dsinθ=(n+12)λ.

d=4λ

sinθ=(n+12)14=18,38,58,78,98.....

But since sinθ<1,

sinθ can take only 4 values.

Thus θ has only 4 values.

Therefore 4 minima are observed.
