Question

Two concave mirrors are placed 40 cm apart and are facing each other. A point object lies between them at a distance of 12 cm from the mirror of focal length 10 cm. The other mirror has focal length 15 cm. Find the location of final image formed after two reflections, first at the mirror nearer to the object and 2nd at the other mirror.

The correct option is D 8.57 cm from the 2nd mirror

For first reflection

u1=12 cm; f1=10 cm

using mirror formula

1v1+1u1=1f1

1v1=110+112

v1=60 cm

The rays after reflection are going to converge at a point I1=60 cm from the first mirror i.e, 6040=20 cm behind the mirror.

For second reflection

As incident rays are directed toward right, all quantities towards right will be taken +ve.

u2=+20 cm; f2=15 cm

Again using mirror formula,

1v2+1u2=1f2

1v2=115+120

v2=30035=8.57 cm

Hence correct option is (c).
