Question

Two conducting rods are joined together and are moving in a magnetic field of magnitude 0.5 T as shown in the figure. The potential difference between the ends A and B is (in volt) :
(Give the answer in integer only)

Solution

The effective length of the rod between points O and B is:

leff=OB=OA2+AB2

=32+22=13 m

Emf developed across ends O and B is,

VOVB=Bω(leff)22

=0.5×10×(13)22

VOVB=652 V .........(1)

Emf developed across rod OA is,

VOVA=Bωl22=0.5×10×322

VOVA=452 V .........(2)

Using equations (1) and (2), we get

VAVB=652452=10 V

Accepted answer: 10
