Given that pressure of H2O(l) at 300 K & 350 K are 22 mm of Hg and 40 mm of Hg. The final pressure in each container if valve is opened while keeping the containers at the given temperature is:

Solution:- (A) 22 mm of Hg
The vapour pressure in the container Y is higher than the vapour pressure in the container X.
When the valve is opened, the vapours from container Y diffuse into the container X and condense there.
When the equilibrium is re-established, the mass of liquid water in the container Y decreases and the mass of the liquid water in the container X increases.
Thus the final pressure in the two containers will be same, i.e., 22 mm of Hg.
