Question

Two crossroads, each of width 10m, cut at right angles through the centre of a rectangular park of length 700m and breadth 300m and parallel to its sides. Find the area of the roads.

Open in App
Solution

Area of rectangle = 700 m length × 300 m width = 21000 sq. m
Area of cross road which is parallel to side of 300 m width = 10 m×300 m=300 sq.m
Area of cross road which is parallel to side of 700 m width = 10 m×700 m=7000 sq m
Total area of cross roads = 3000+700010×10 ( Because the central portion 10×10 is taken in both these calculations and hence we need to subtract one of them)
= 9900 sq.m
Hence the area of park without cross roads = 210000 - 9900 = 200100 sq m
