Question

Two electrons, each of mass 9.1 x 10-31 kg, are at a distance 10 Å. Calculate the gravitational force of attraction between them. (G = 6.67 x 10-11 Nm2 kg-2 ; 1 Å = 10-10 m)

Solution

Given:

The mass of each of the two electrons (m1) = 9.1 x 10-31 kg, (m2) = 9.1 x 10-31 kg.

The distance between the two electrons (R) = 10 Å.

Gravitational constant (G) = 6.67 x 10-11 Nm2 kg-2.

1 Å = 10-10 m.

Required to find:

The gravitational force (F) between the two electrons.

Solution:

The gravitational force of attraction (F) between two objects is given by F=Gm1m2R2.

By substituting the given values, we get

F=(6.67x10-11)x(9.1x10-31)x(9.1x10-31)(10x10-10)2=552.34x10-7310-18=552.34x10-55=5.52x10-53

Therefore, the force of attraction between the two electrons is 5.52 x 10-53 N.
