Question

Two friends together bought 10 cupcakes. First friend contributed ₹75 and second friend contributed ₹175. How many cupcakes should the second friend get?

Open in App
Solution

Total number of cupcakes bought = 10
Amount of money contributed by first friend = ₹75
Amount of money contributed by second friend = ₹175

Ratio of the money contributed by two friends = 75 : 175
Divide both sides by 25
75 ÷ 25 = 3
175 ÷ 25 = 7

The ratio of the money contributed by the two friends is 3 : 7
The number of cupcakes bought by both of them should also be shared in the ratio 3:7

There are 10 cupcakes.
Thus, the second friend should get 7 cupcakes while the first friend gets 3 cupcakes.
