Question

Two identical springs of spring constant k are attached to a block of mass m and to fixed support. Show that when the mass is displaced from its equilibrium position then either side,it executes a simple harmonic motion. Find the period of oscillation.

Dear student,If we displace the mass in any direction, the other spring will pull it back due to restoring force. The force if F=-kxon the other hand F=mf from newtons second law therefore mf=-kx f=-kmxthis is a representation of SHM where acceleration is proportional to the displacement.and the frequency ω=kmif period of oscillation is Tthen ω=2πT=km T= 2πkm
