Solution

The correct option is D For x0, potential Vx=σϵ0x

We know that for an infinite, parallel and non-conducting sheets, electric field is given by E=σ2ϵo, where σ is charge density.

For 0xa :

Enet=E1+E2=0 because charge density is same.

So,

ΔV=Enet.dx=0VxVx=0=0

Vx=0

For xa :

Enet=E1+E2=σϵo^i

So,

ΔV=Enet.dx=σϵo^i.(xa)^i

VxVx=0=σϵo(xa)

Vx=σϵo(xa)

For x0 :

Enet=E1+E2=σϵo^i

So,

ΔV=Enet.dx=(σϵo^i).(x)^i

VxVx=0=σϵox

Vx=σϵox
