Question

Two insulating small spheres are rubbed against each other and placed 1 cm apart. If they attract each other with a force of 0.1 N, how many electrons were transferred from one sphere to the other during rubbing?

Solution

F=0.1N
r=1cm =102(As they rubbed with each other. So the charge on each sphere are equal)

The electrostatic force is given by:
So, F=kq1q2r2

0.1=kq2(102)2

q2=0.1×1049×109q2=19×1014

q=13×107

1.6×1019C carries by 1 electron 1C carried by 11.6×1019

0.33×107c carries by
11.6×1019×0.33×107=0.208×1012=2.08×1011.
