Question

Two lens of power -3D and +2.5D are placed in contact. Find the total power of combination of Lens. Calculate the focal length of this combination.

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Given data

Power of two lenses

P1=-3DP2=+2.5D

Here D denotes dioptre, unit of power of the lens.

Let the focal length be F.

Step 2: Calculating the power of the combination of lenses and focal length of this combination:

The power of the combination is given by P=P1+P2

P=-3D+(+2.5D)P=-0.5D

Step 3: Calculate the focal length.

P=1F(inm)F=1PF=1-0.5F=-2m

Hence, the total power of the combination of lens is -0.5D and the focal length of this combination is -2m.
