Question

two liquid A and B have vapour pressure in the ratio 1:3 at certain temperature. assume A nad B form an ideal solution and the ration of mole fraction of A and B in vapour phase is 2:1. then the mole fraction of A in the solution at the same temperature

Solution

Dear student
Total vapour pressure = 1+3 = 4
Total moles = 2+1 = 3
Moles of A = 2/3
Moles of B = 1/3
Partial pressure of A = 2/3 * 4 = 2.67
Partial pressure of B = 1/3 * 4 = 1.33
Mole fraction of A = 2.67/1.33
= 2
