S = CA^Z
Where, S= species, A= Area, Z= slope of the line, C =Y- intercept.
Alexander Von Humboldt observed that within a region, species richness increases when explored area is increased, but only up to a limit.
The relationship between species richness and area is found to be a rectangular hyperbola.
