The correct option is A12m, leftward Let the system of masses be as shown below
So, for two mass system we have m1x1=m2x2 ⇒3x1=12x2⇒x1=4x2..(i) Now, the 12kg mass is shifted 3m right, so let us say that 3kg mass is shifted left so that the COM remain unaltered. So, the condition should be as shown below
Again, we have 3(x+x1)=12(x2+3) ⇒x+x1=4x2+12 From eq (i), we have x=12m Hence, movement of 3kg mass will be 12m leftwards.
