Two men start...

Question

Two men start from two points p and q. 8km apart and walk towards each other. They meet in 80 mins. If they walk in the same direction they meet in 2 hours. Find the speed of each man.

Solution

Let speed of two mans are x and y respectively so if they walk in opposite direction
80/60=8/(x+y)
x+y=6.........(1)
Now if they walk in same direction
2=8/(x-y)
x-y=4.........(2)
By adding (1) and (2) we get
2x=10
x=5
Hence y=1
So speed is 5km/h and 1 km/h
