Let the gap for capacitor 1 be x and that for capacitor 2 be y. Then,
C1=ϵ0Ax and C2=ϵ0Ay
x+y=d/2

Since the two are in series,
C=C1C2C1+C2=ϵ0A1xy1x+1y

=ϵ0Ax+y=2ϵ0Ad=2C
Hence , CC=2
