Let larger number be x

Then smaller number will be = (x - 6).

Sum of the two numbers will be = x + (x -6)

Forming the equation:

x + (x -6) = 36

[rearranging the terms]

=x + x - 6 = 36

=2x - 6 = 36

=[adding 6 on both sides]

= 2x - 6 +6 = 36+6

= 2x = 42

[dividing both terms by 2]

=2x2=x=422=21
