The correct option is A X will be higher than Y
Let the mass of the object A be mx and of object B be my where mx>my. Let the resistive force applied by air on the objects be F. Let the height reached by object X be Hx and by object Y be Hy . Let the speed they are launched be v. The balls will reach maximum height when their Kinetic Energy becomes zero. Writing the required equation we have;
12×mx×v2F×HxmxgHx=0
12×my×v2F×HymygHy=0
Simplifying above we have;
Hx=12×mx×v2F+mxg
Hy=12×my×v2F+myg
Dividing above two we have;
HxHy=mx×(F+myg)my×(F+mxg)
HxHy=mxF+mxmygmyF+mymxg
Since mx>my we have Hx>Hy.
