Question

Two optically flat plates of glass are kept at a small angle \(\theta\) as shown in the figure. Monochromatic light is incident vertically.

If the wavelength of light used to get a fringe spacing of 1 mm is 450 nm, the wavelength of light (in mm) to get a fringe spacing of 1.5 mm is

Solution

$\text{Given data : 1 mm = 450 mm, Spacing =1.5 mm}$

$\text{\(n=\dfrac{2}{450}\) As given in question }$

\(1.5=n\times\dfrac{\lambda_{2}}{2}\)

\(\lambda_{2}=\dfrac{1.5\times2}{n}=\dfrac{1.5\times 2}{\dfrac{2}{450}}=1.5\times 450=675\, mm\)
